In terms of population, Marrakech is twice the size of Agadir, so if you are looking for a city with a more intimate feel, Agadir might suit you better. However, if you are looking for lots of things to do and the buzz of a big city, Marrakech would be better.

The ancient Medina was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1985 because of the city's impressive architecture and art. Winston Churchill was captivated by Marrakesh and visited during the 1930s and the 1940s, even spending some time in the city with American President Franklin Roosevelt during the war.

Marrakech is also known as the city of luxury, thanks to its famous palaces, 5-star restaurants, luxury spas and hammams and charming riads (traditional houses) in the medina. Amongst others, there is the Mamounia and its enchanting gardens, the luxurious Royal Mansour hammam and the refined cuisine of Namaskar Palace.

Surrounded by a vast palm grove, the medina in Marrakech is called the “red city” because of its buildings and ramparts of beaten clay, which were built during the residence of the Almohads. The heart of the medina is Jamaa el-Fna square, a vibrant marketplace

Marrakech was the capital of the Almoravid Empire that covered a vast area from Maghreb to Europe. Now, along with the Berber, the Andalusia influence was born. Marrakech, under the Almoravid grew into an important splendid Islamic city of commercial power and wealth.
